The Cully neighborhood is a predominately Latino/a/x community located in NE Portland. While its sense of community is flourishing, this neighborhood is under served. Cully has some of the the lowest rated schools in the state, a high crime rate, unsafe walking conditions, and is also considered a food desert.
This project aims to reclaim the streets for pedestrian activity. A three-block urban park located at the center of the Cully neighborhood. Not only providing safe walking spaces, but allowing for a social and recreational hub for residents of all ages and abilities. Establishing the “heart” of Cully.
Walkway on NE Cully Blvd. Providing safe walking spaces for pedestrians, pulling them away from the busy street.
Intersection at NE Prescott and NE Cully Blvd. Added additional crosswalks.
Transformed what was previously a through street into a pedestrian-only corridor, allowing space for thriving outdoor neighborhood marketplace.
